Our blog-happy budget director Orszag
News we didn't want to know: Budget chief Peter Orszag is such a devout consumer of blogs — and a blogger himself — that he devours 30 to 40 of them every morning.
Listen to his riff on blogging on this video. And go to the Office of Management and Budget for more info...about its blogging, at least.
This is all part of President Barack Obama's plan to have more transparency. But more than blogs are needed. Basic hard information, not blogs, is what we want from the White House. As it is now, the whitehouse.gov site is very friendly — too friendly, because it's poor as a presidential archive of facts, figures, and photos. (See my January 23 post.)
So far, Obama's White House site is more unfriendly with the transcripts and facts than the Bush-Cheney regime was.
The OMB's site does have budget info (start here), but you're better off going to Seeking Alpha for its link to Rebekah Manning's "Understanding the 2010 Federal Budget" on the Online Forex Trading site. That's a real blow-by-blow — the first blow being that the Department of Defense gets half the total.
Back to Orszag: More blogs? No, give us the information and we'll do the blogging.
Orszag says he wants to know what the bloggers are saying every day. Word to Orszag: Do you really need to know? Let your aides do that for you. Stop fuckin' around and do your job.
