U.S. Gun Owners Stocking Up on Ammo

Is that a gun in your pocket or are you just scared of the recession and peacenik Democrats? All of the above. So many gun nuts are scouring the country for ammo that Wal-Mart, for example, is rationing bullets — at some stores you can buy only 50 rounds at a time.
"What's triggering a shortage of guns?," the Manchester Union-Leader asks this morning. A gun-shop owner answers:
"Three main elements that have been behind this are the potential for pending legislation on the federal level, a federal administration that doesn't have any regard for the rights of individuals, and just a general sense of uncertainty."
Best read on this is a recent story in the Register (U.K.): "Ammo rationing at Wal-Mart as panic buying sweeps US," noting that Remington's North Carolina factor is now working 24/7.
